Ancient Thermal Waters
Yoga in San Giuliano Terme
A historic spa town nestled between Pisa and Lucca, known since Roman times for its therapeutic thermal waters.
San Giuliano Terme has welcomed wellness seekers for over two thousand years. The Romans built the first bathhouse here, and Pliny the Elder praised these "aquae pisanae" for their therapeutic qualities.
The town reached its golden age in the 18th century when the Grand Dukes of Tuscany made it their summer spa residence, attracting European nobility. Legend has it that Mary Shelley conceived the character of Frankenstein while staying at the Bagni di Pisa.
Today, the thermal waters still flow from Monte San Giuliano at 38°C, rich in minerals beneficial for the musculoskeletal and respiratory systems. The historic Grotta dei Granduchi offers an intimate cave spa experience unchanged since the 1700s.
This is where I live and teach — the perfect place to combine yoga with thermal relaxation. After a morning practice overlooking the Pisan hills, surrender to the healing waters that have restored travellers for millennia.
Food & Wine
The hills around San Giuliano produce excellent olive oil and local wines. Visit agriturismos in the Monte Pisano foothills for farm-to-table Tuscan cuisine paired with wines from the Terre di Pisa DOC.
